- Your files stay on your PC
Privacy first
Your documents are yours. Full stop.
A PDF app touches contracts, IDs, tax forms — some of the most personal files you own. Here's exactly how pdfedia treats them.
Your files stay on your PC
pdfedia opens, searches and prints your documents on your own computer. It doesn't upload them to do any of that.
It never changes your files
pdfedia is a reader. It doesn't write to the PDFs you open, so what you open is exactly what stays on disk.
Updates and statistics are your choice
pdfedia checks for updates online, and you can turn that off in Settings > Updates. Usage statistics, linked to a random install identifier and not to your name or account, are sent only if you agree.
Bandwidth sharing is opt-in
The installer offers optional bandwidth sharing. It stays off unless you accept it, and you can change it any time in Settings > Bandwidth sharing.
See our Privacy Policy for full details of the update checks pdfedia makes and the usage statistics it sends only if you agree.
Why pdfedia
What pdfedia does today
Several PDFs in tabs
Open files with the Open button, by drag and drop, from Recent files, or with Open with in File Explorer. Each opens in its own tab, and password-protected PDFs ask for the password.
Search the whole document
Press Ctrl+F to find and highlight every match, then F3 to jump to the next. Hebrew text is searched as well as English. You can also select and copy text.
Find your way around
Use page thumbnails, bookmarks or go to a page number. Switch between continuous and single-page view, zoom, fit to width or page, and rotate the view.
Print with a live preview
Choose pages, copies and orientation, and fit or actual size, and check the preview before anything reaches the printer.
Reading works offline
Opening, reading, searching and printing PDFs all happen on your PC and need no internet connection.

Includes optional Massive (Windows only). The installer offers Massive, an optional service that helps keep pdfedia free, on its own page with Accept and Decline. If you accept, Massive uses some of your PC's unused processing power, storage and internet bandwidth, including routing public web traffic for Massive's business customers through your connection, so websites see your IP address. It runs in the background while pdfedia is running: in the system tray after you close the window, and from when you sign in to Windows, because "Start PDFedia when you sign in" is ticked by default in the installer. Switch it off any time in Settings > Bandwidth sharing, choose Exit from the pdfedia tray icon to stop it, and uninstall it on its own in Windows Settings → Apps, or together with pdfedia. Decline and Massive isn't set up — pdfedia works exactly the same.

Questions
Good to know
Is pdfedia really free?
Yes. pdfedia is free to download and use, and you don't need an account.
Can I edit, fill in or sign a PDF with pdfedia?
Not yet. Today pdfedia is a reader: it opens, searches and prints PDFs, and it doesn't change your files.
Are my documents safe?
pdfedia opens, searches and prints your files on your PC. It doesn't upload them to do that, and it doesn't change them. See our Privacy Policy for the full details.
Do I need an internet connection?
Not to open, read, search or print PDFs. pdfedia checks for updates online (you can turn this off in Settings > Updates). It sends usage statistics, linked to a random install identifier and not to your name or account, only if you agree, and it offers bandwidth sharing that stays off unless you accept it.
Why can't I search my scanned PDF?
A scan is a picture of a page, so it has no text to search. pdfedia tells you when this happens. Text recognition (OCR) isn't available yet.
Do I need to create an account?
No. There's nothing to sign up for. Install it and open a PDF.
What are the system requirements?
pdfedia runs on 64-bit Windows 10 (version 2004 or later) and Windows 11. Mac support isn't available today.
